Return of the Missionary: Sister Montgomery meets Cheyenne - Aug 6, 2014

I don't think y'all realize how excited I've been to write that as my email subject. It just sounds so dramatic. Like return of the Jedi or something haha

Well, family. Two Days.

That's weird. So weird.

I've done a lot of reflecting this week.

Our District Leader asked both Sister Hopkins and I to give a training on what we learned most on our mission and then to bare our testimonies. I decided to share D&C 136:40 "Have I not delivered you from your enemies, only in that I have left a witness of my name?" Through all the trial and hardship and tears, I have come to know my Heavenly Father and my Savior in a way that wouldn't not have had the opportunity to, had I not had those challenges. I know better now that He really is mighty to save. In turning to the Savior in need, He has left a witness and a mark on me that can not be denied. In the words of some of the pioneers, I have come to know God. And I will continue to do so.

I had my last MLC on Friday and so many of the mission leadership is going home. I think President Slaughter has been preparing things for this, as he called it a great "exodus" of missionaries. Departing missionaries got to share our Pearl of Great Price at the end of the meeting, meaning something that we had learned and would want to leave or pass on to other missionaries.

We had our exit interviews on Saturday (there were too many of us to do them all the day before we left, 14 Sisters and 14 Elders) as well. One thing I shared with President Slaughter was that my only expectation coming on a mission was to teach others about the Atonement. I knew how much it had effected me, and I wanted others feel that they can change and repent as well. I told President Slaughter "I came with the intent of teaching of the Atonement, but I think I learned more of the Atonement then I ever taught of it." Truly, I have been blessed in this service.

We were also asked last minute to bare our testimonies in testimony meeting yesterday. Lots of reflection all week..

I've been very grateful for all of the missionaries that I have served around, the leaders that I've had and the things they have taught me.

I'm grateful for the members I've worked with and the memories we've shared. I'm very grateful to have met and taught so many people that I never would have come in contact with in any other way than serving here in Texas.

Most of all, I'm grateful for my Savior, that He and my Heavenly Father have given me such a privilege of service, learning and growth. My life, will forever be changed because I served a mission.

I love Y'all and will see you on Wednesday.

Love,

Hermana Cheyenne Montgomery
